OPP and Search and Rescue Honey Harbour

JRCC AND OPP SEARCHING HONEY HARBOUR AREA AFTER SUNKEN VESSEL LOCATED

 

(GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP, On)- Members of Marine Unit attached the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police along with members of the Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Military are currently searching the Honey Harbour area under the direction of Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Trenton.

 

An investigation was commenced to ascertain if there were any persons on board a partially submerged vessel after an OPP Marine officer located it adrift just off the south tip of Robert’s Island near Turning Rock on July 7, 2013 at 10:35 PM.

 

The found vessel is described as being an 18-20’ white fiberglass hulled vessel with red trim bearing registration number 50E97994. Anyone with information as to the owner of the vessel or any observations of this vessel recently is asked to contact to the OPP at 705-526-3761 or 1-888-310-1122. Assisting the OPP Marine Units in the search of the water and nearby shorelines of Robert and Quarry Islands are the Canadian Coast Guard 47’ “Cape Providence” of Meaford, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel “Thunder Spirit” of Penetanguishene, Canadian Coast Guard “1000” of Brebeuf Island, Canadian Forces Griffon Helicopter of Trenton.

 

This investigation and search is ongoing and does not pose any disruption or hazard to marine navigation in the Turning Rock area of the channel.
