Observations of a Boater from Penetang

Posted by Gary Pickering on March 21, 2012 at 7:40 AM

Weather is just perfect  here.

Foggy out in the bay. Large patches of ice ( slush) inPenetang Bay. May be gone when the fog lifts.

Open water  in the gap. As of last Friday water levelwas up 7" above last years YTD.

Did not have a lot of lake effect snow or evaporation from extreme cold dry weather.

Would expect water level to drop significantly as the LakeSuperior basin did not have much snow either resulting in decrease

water flow down stream into the other Great Lakes

G. Bay. Could lose a few docks at Cedar springs in the earlysummer due to low water levels.

From  road at Hindson surprise to see 5boats where owners removed their winter cover on the weekend.

Still a lot of adverse weather to come between now and launchtime. Will remove our boat cover mid April for May 1st launch

During the late fall and now  Hindson has been busydredging. At Beacon Bay it looks like they are enlarging their

inner harbour for more docks.

Bay Moorings are busy with earth moving equipment which may resultin their storage buildings being moved

to a vacant section of property at the other end of the Marina.
